Why has he worked so hard to gain this muscle? Ladies, it’s not all for you.
Cancer runs in the family and he is preparing himself for the fight in the future.
We asked him to write a bit about this milestone and here is what he had to say.
In the past five months, I’ve gained 9 lbs.
For me, this was a huge challenge, as I have always struggled to keep my weight up. A lot of people think having a fast metabolism is a wonderful problem to have, but they don’t realize the amount of time I spend feeding myself every day. It’s a massive pain in the ass, especially since I cook all of my meals, maintain a healthy diet, and rarely eat out.
So, why am I trying so hard to gain weight? Well, back in 2010, my mom passed away at 56 after a battle with cancer. She was a slender woman to begin with, but the disease and treatments really took a toll on her body.
I’m 28 years old now; frankly, 56 doesn’t seem that far away to me. Should I live to be that old, I know I will have to fight some sort of disease – likely cancer given my family history – and I want to be in the best shape I possibly can be for when that day comes.
When I first joined in 2010, I weighed 145 lbs. At the time, my current weight (165 lbs) seemed like a total pipe dream – like, how the hell was I going to put on 25 lbs of muscle? I have dealt with countless setbacks – injury, illness, etc. – but I kept at it, and I made progress.
My goal is to eventually reach 175 lbs, which means I have another 10 lbs to go, but that honestly doesn’t seem unachievable anymore. I’m looking forward to the challenge, and I’m hoping to reach my next milestone before 2016.
